Things to Do For Kids in New Mexico Summer 2020
Holy Ghost Creek in the upper Pecos is awesome right now!
The runoff is down, water clear and schools of tasty fat rainbows hanging in the deeper pools.
Holy Ghost creek is the perfect size for kid fishing with shallow riffles ending in small deep pools that are easily seen and the creek being so small, no need to wade in strong swift currents.
A simple #8 snelled bait holder hook on a swivel adding enough weight to get the rig down and some flash as an attractant, baited with a few "soft and satisfying" Pautzke Balls of Fire will get the kids hooked up! Maybe add a small split shot or two to get and keep your bait down deep in the faster pools.....
When our ProGuides lead this trip, we always have onboard a completed fish fry kit for the finest day on the water in the wilds of New Mexico.
To get up there, head north on Hwy 63 from Pecos and turn left at the old bridge just short of Tererro General Store.
TGS is a great place to buy bait, snacks, ice cream - fishing and picnic supplies. You will also see more hummingbirds at TGS than you can imagine!
